Mathys Tel is the name on everyone's lips at the moment. The French forward is looking for a new challenge and is ready to leave Bayern Munich this month.

Tel has struggled to assert himself as a starter in Munich, which is hardly surprising given the German giants splashed out £100million to sign England captain Harry Kane in 2023.

The 19-year-old has found himself an unused substitute on too many occasions for his liking this season under new boss Vincent Kompany, but did get a rare start in the final Champions League league phase game against Slovan Bratislava on Wednesday night.

Tel does not have a goal to his name yet this season, but did burst onto the scene last year with 10 goals and six assists in 41 appearances. Those 41 appearances only amounted to 1,406 minutes on the pitch though, meaning he had a goal involvement every 88 minutes.

Bayern Munich director Max Eberl has confirmed the forward wants to leave, with a number of clubs interested in signing him. Eberl said: "We spoke in December, and Mathys said he wanted to assert himself. Now he has said he would like to leave. Now we have to consider whether we will do it and what we will do.

"Loan or permanent? We will assess all the options. I've rarely had so many clubs call me about a player before."

Tottenham, Chelsea and Manchester United are all thought to hold an interest in the teenager, but Spurs technical director Johan Lange reportedly in Germany on Wednesday to discuss a deal with Bayern.

Here we take a look at the key reasons why Tel should choose Spurs over Chelsea or Man Utd...

Game time

Tottenham's injury situation is well known. Ange Postecoglou barely has fit enough players to name a starting XI!

Dominic Solanke is sidelined currently, with Richarlison only just coming back from injury himself. Across the frontline there are also injuries to Brennan Johnson and Timo Werner, while the likes of Dejan Kulusevski desperately need a rest.

Tel would come in and start immediately, of that there is little doubt. He would be thrown in the deep end, but the reason for leaving Bayern is that he's not getting game time. He would certainly get that at Spurs.

At Chelsea Nicolas Jackson is Enzo Maresca's go-to guy up front, with plenty of options in the wide areas too. Game time might not be as easy to come by there. Manchester United might offer more chances, but Spurs is where guaranteed minutes are available.

Kane link-up

Harry Kane knows Tottenham only too well, having spent the majority of his career in N17. And the England captain knows Tel well too and can pass on snippets of information about the club.

Kane grew up at Spurs and at 19 years of age, Tel could do exactly the same. Kane has spoken to Tel about his game plenty and could lay the groundwork for the teenager to move to Spurs, either on loan or permanently.

Speaking last season, Tel said of Kane: "He’s a great striker. He has shown that across his career. I’m a striker too, so he’s a role model for me. It’s important to have people to learn from technically and in terms of finishing. Often I don’t even have to ask him.

“He just comes over to me and tells me, ‘Mathys, you can do that, or that.' He’s a role model to me, and he is helping me a lot."

Following in Kane's path, albeit in the other direction, could be just what Tel needs.

Experience matters

At Tottenham, Tel would be arriving at a club where there are two established strikers already. Dominic Solanke and Richarlison are both 27 years old and know the Premier League inside out.

If Tel wants to learn about the league and what is required, he has two to help him on his way. That would not necessarily be the case at Manchester United or Chelsea.

United have 21-year-old Rasmus Hojlund, who only arrived in England in 2023, and Joshua Zirkzee, a 23-year-old who only came to the Premier League in the summer. Chelsea have 23-year-old Nicolas Jackson and 27-year-old Christopher Nkunku, although both have been in England for less than two years.
