Mathys Tel transfer and two return - Tottenham dream attack after deadline day
Tottenham are set to sign Mathys Tel from Bayern Munich in a sensational January transfer U-Turn, it has been claimed. The Frenchman is now expected to fly to north London to finalise a deadline day move.
Spurs had agreed a £50million deal with Bayern to sign Tel on Friday, only for the 19-year-old to reject the switch in favour of either staying in Germany or moving elsewhere. Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United had been linked with a move for Tel, who has struggled for game time since Vincent Kompany's appointment last summer.
But now, Tel has had a change of heart and is expected to join Spurs. football.london understands the structure of the deal still to be finalised, but he he has decided to sign for Tottenham, who would prefer a more permanent arrangement.

Bayern accepted Tel's decision to leave and his agent Gadiri Camara posted a picture on a plane heading to England to complete the deal. Should Tel's move to Tottenham go through, he would strengthen Ange Postecoglou's frontline and give them an extra dimension in attack for the remainder of the season.
Tel can play anywhere across the front line, though he has been preferred on the left-hand side at Bayern for the past two years due to Harry Kane's form. But at Spurs, Tel might be used down the middle with Dominic Solanke still out for the next four weeks and Richarlison nursing a groin issue.
Will Lankshear's loan move to West Brom has left Spurs even lighter in that central striker position, and it makes sense for Tel to be played there even if it's in the short-term. In the long run, Tel might drift out to the left with Son Heung-min not at his flying best this season and Brennan Johnson still out.
While Tel might not have been Tottenham's first option this month, it's no doubt that he is a 'dream' deadline day option due to moves being harder to sanction at this time of the window. Fortunately for Spurs, they have been able to get him through the doors and he could be an astute piece of business.
Even should Tel sign, Spurs are not expected to let anyone else leave before Monday's 11pm deadline. It would mean that Tottenham's attack is stacked when everyone is back fit, though that is not anticipated to be for a couple of months yet.
Spurs would then boast a 'dream' attack. This includes returns for two players in Johnson and Solanke.
This would include: Mathys Tel, Dominic Solanke, Son Heung-min, Dejan Kulusevski, Wilson Odobert, Brennan Johnson, Timo Werner, Mikey Moore and Dane Scarlett as their forward options.
