Matt Bloomfield on Caleb Taylor, Aaron Morley and potential new signings at Wycombe
Wycombe Wanderers manager Matt Bloomfield has revealed his side need to be ‘ready to go’ following the departures of two first-team players.
Centre back Caleb Taylor and midfielder Aaron Morley have both returned to West Bromwich Albion and Bolton Wanderers respectively, following the conclusion of their loan deals at the start of this month.
The duo signed for the Chairboys at the end of August and played a collective 43 games for the Adams Park team, which included a total of 38 league an cup starts.
Their last outing was in the 2-1 win over Exeter City on New Year's Day, in which Morley scored an injury-time penalty to seal the victory and send Wanderers top of the table.
Whilst it is hoped that the two will return to Buckinghamshire before the end of the month, Bloomfield wants his current squad of players to ‘be ready’ if they are drafted in.
He said: “The whole group has been fantastic but Caleb and Aaron have played the majority of minutes since they arrived, so boys who want more game time need to step in.
“We have been really intelligent with the way we have used the loan market, as it helps with the budget, but the downside is that they are not your own.
“We don’t have a right over keeping them as they can be recalled in January.
“Sadly for us, the boys have done too well because they are getting recalled.
“It is disappointing but we have to say thank you.”
When asked about new recruits arriving this month, he added: “We have to be ready to react when these things come up.
“We need to be ready to go.
“Dan [Rice] and I have been working incredibly hard on that.
“Data plays a huge role in our recruitment so we are looking forward to seeing what it can do for us.”
On the possibility of Taylor returning, he concluded: “I don’t know is my honest answer, we have had discussions with them but I have not been part of those conversations, so I don’t know.
“We hope that can change.
“He’s played for West Brom and us, so he can only play for one of those two clubs, along with Aaron.”
Up next for Wycombe is a home league clash against Blackpool on January 4.
