Will Matthew Stafford make the Pro Football Hall of Fame? What his career, stats say
The Los Angeles Rams have rebounded from a 1-4 start by winning three games in a row after their bye in Week 6. They've been helped by players returning from injury, including wide receivers Cooper Kupp and Puka Nacua.
Though the personnel has changed week-to-week, one constant on offense has remained the same: quarterback Matthew Stafford. The 36-year-old has been on a tear over the last two weeks with six touchdowns to just two interceptions.
Stafford's on track to be the 10th player in NFL history to surpass 60,000 career passing yards. But is he worthy of a spot in the Pro Football Hall of Fame? Here's the latest on his case for a bust in Canton, Ohio.
Will Matthew Stafford make the Hall of Fame?
Stafford will likely make the Pro Football Hall of Fame behind his statistics. He's in the top 10 in NFL history in completions (ninth), passing yards (10th), and passing touchdowns (tied for 10th). He also won the Super Bowl but only has two Pro Bowls on his resume.
According to Pro Football Reference's Hall of Fame monitor, he hasn't reached the average Hall of Fame quarterback value number. He's well past the average yards and touchdowns but has fallen short in awards. Pro Football Reference puts the average Hall of Fame quarterback at two first-team All-Pro and seven Pro Bowl awards.
Only four quarterbacks have made the Hall of Fame without any first-team All-Pro honors: John Elway, Roger Staubach, Warren Moon, and Troy Aikman. Staubach and Aikman each had six Pro Bowl nods, and Elway and Moon had nine.
2024 Matthew Stafford stats
Through eight games, Stafford has completed 182 of 276 passes (65.9%) for 1,969 yards, nine touchdowns, and six interceptions for an 88.6 passer rating.
