Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola says his team are getting back to the sort of form which made them a dominant force after they thumped Ipswich Town 6-0.

After a close and competitive first 25 minutes the four-time defending Premier League champions went ahead through Phil Foden and never looked back, cruising to victory in Suffolk.

At times, it looked like men against boys as City - who have had well-documented struggles this season - went up through the gears and moved back into the top four.

Speaking afterwards, Guardiola said: "We are back to doing things that define this team for the last 10 years.

"Really pleased for the three points and to climb into qualification for the Champions League for next season, that will be so tough.

"Maybe not our best but closer with the consistency we have in our game. Most of them didn't happen in the previous games that we won."

He added: "The result was important for obvious reasons but the players realised what we were.

"A long time we were not like we were - for many reasons, injuries but not just that.

"We realised that if we do this then okay we can compete or can be a team enjoying doing what we like to do.

"Hopefully the players can feel it. We talked a lot recently about what we missed."

Of the performance, he told Sky Sports: "Probably the best this season, in terms of all-round play. Keeping possession at important times and we defended well. One of our best performances this year.

"We are building momentum, keeping players fit is important. I put it down to people being in better shape and the team is bonding better.

"When we score we are not rushing it. We are keeping possession and build-up play was important today.

"I learned everything from it (his poor form). It is good to see me back scoring goals with a smile on my face and enjoying football. I want to keep going and adding to that.

"You never know what can happen. The aim is to stay in the top four."
