Swindon Town’s Sean McGurk said that he is just trying to prove what he is capable of after scoring a wonderful goal on loan at Yeovil Town.

Having struggled for regular game time at Swindon this season, McGurk joined the National League club on a one-month loan deal in late December.

The former Leeds United man has impressed heavily during his time at Huish Park, scoring twice in his four appearances, with his goal this week against Ebbsfleet United especially catching the eye.

Former Swindon boss Mark Cooper has been using McGurk wide on the left and the confidence he was playing with was on full display at Stonebridge Road as he Cruyff-turned one defender on the halfway line before nutmegging another and then capped it off with a strike from outside the area which struck off the post and went in.

Speaking to club media after the game, McGurk said: “I think that the main goal that I said when I came in was to get regular game time and I have got that.

“Personally, I just want to keep building and showing people what I can do regularly.

“Hopefully, since I have come in I have done that and I want to continue doing that week in, week out.”

Ian Holloway had been a big fan of McGurk’s when he first arrived at the club, talking about his ability to change games when given the freedom.

However he fell out of contention, with the Town boss saying of him: “He knows exactly what I want him to do and if I see him do it then he might be back in, that is not a problem."

Having made the move down a division to get extra playing time, Holloway has been very impressed with McGurk and even held him up as an example to other players who were not getting much time on the pitch.

The 61-year-old said that his performances for Yeovil were improving his stock at Swindon and chances of becoming a part of his squad.

He said: “If you go and play and go and show people what you can do then things might get better for you, like Sean McGurk has done.

“He is opening up a whole can of worms for himself by agreeing and thinking ‘I don’t care if it is Yeovil, I will go and show you what I can do’ and that is a wonderful thing to do.”
