Bromley have completed a move for former Swindon Town star Harry McKirdy on a permanent deal following his release from Hibernian.

Despite the transfer window closing on Monday, Town’s League Two rivals have made a swoop for the former Swindon Advertiser Player of the Season award winner.

There had been some speculation last week that Town could bring him back to The Nigel Eady County Ground for a third stint but that was never a deal that the club seriously pursued with the current state of the squad and the number of attackers currently on the books.

Just before the deadline elapsed on Monday, Hibernian and McKirdy agreed to a mutual termination of his contract, allowing him to make a move on a free transfer to any club even outside of the transfer window.

He was not a free agent for long and was quickly picked up by Bromley to see him return to League Two and will now come back to The Nigel Eady County Ground before the end of the season when The Ravens come to Swindon on April 21.

The 27-year-old left Swindon in 2022 for the Scottish Premiership outfit but his time there did not take off in the same way and he only ended up making 33 appearances for the club and didn’t score a league goal.

His time at Easter Road was disrupted in July 2023 when it was discovered during pre-season that he had a heart problem which required surgery and saw him out until December of 2023, before moving back to Swindon on loan in January.

The former Aston Villa forward scored a memorable last-minute equaliser at Gillingham during that loan spell but his playing time was limited as he was still coming back to full fitness and then-interim head coach Gavin Gunning said that he would not rush him.

McKirdy was not the only former Swindon player to end up at Hayes Lane in the last few days, as Bromley brought in Marcus Ifill following his departure from Brighton and Hove Albion.

Ifill came through the academy at Swindon and was named on the bench against Northampton Town in League Two by Richie Wellens aged just 15 before heading to Brighton, where he has been since 2020.

The winger never made a senior appearance during his time at The Amex but will now hope to do so after making the move to Bromley.
