Messi’s former strike-partner left disfigured after firework explodes in his face
Lionel Messi’s former strike-partner Lucas Viatri has been left disfigured by fireworks after a gruesome accident on Christmas Day.
Former Argentina striker Viatri won’t play for months after the 30-year-old’s face was mangled after a display in Buenos Aires backfired.
He now faces months on the sidelines leaving Penarol short in attack as he starts his recovery.

As these pictures show, his injuries are serious with his eyebrows nearly burned off and much of his face singed by the fireworks.
The three-time capped Argentina international is one of the top players in the Uruguayan League and the club are unsure of his return date.
An official club statement read: “Lucas Viatri suffered an accident with pyrotechnics that affected both eyes.
“He is in Buenos Aires, where he is resting and examinations are being carried out to establish the relevant treatment.
“There is still no exact time to confirm his return.”
