Michael Conlan next opponent confirmed for comeback fight

Michael Conlan's next opponent has been announced as he prepares for his eagerly anticipated ring return on March 7.

It has been confirmed that Conlan will fight on the undercard of Harlem Eubank vs Tyrone McKenna at the Brighton Centre in England.

It will be the 33-year-old's first fight since losing to Jordan Gill back in December 2023. That was Conlan's second successive defeat after he was stopped by Luis Alberto Lopez earlier that year.

Conlan admits he considered retiring in the aftermath of that Gill loss, but after some soul-searching - and running a marathon - the Falls Road man is ready to return.

His comeback fight will be against little-known opponent Asad Asif Khan (19-5-1), whose modest record includes a fifth-round stoppage defeat to former WBA ‘regular’ champion Can Xu back in 2023.

It will act as a tune-up fight for Conlan who will have Sheffield-based trainer Grant Smith in his corner for the first time.

Conlan - who this week signed a promotional deal with Wasserman Boxing - hopes to stay busy in 2025 with potentially four fights, with his "ultimate aim" of winning a world title remaining top of his wish-list.

He came up just short against former WBA 'Regular' featherweight champion Leigh Wood in 2022 before being outclassed by Lopez for the IBF super featherweight title the following year.

Meanwhile, Conlan's Brighton return will be shown live on Channel 5 in the UK.
