Michael Duff bemoans missed Huddersfield Town chances after Rotherham United stalemate
Huddersfield Town boss Michael Duff believes his side could not have done much more to turn their goalless draw against Rotherham United into a victory – besides simply sticking the ball in the net.
The Terriers were held to a frustrating draw after dominating the chances but being unable to open the scoring, with their efforts not helped by debutant Ruben Rooskens being shown a straight red card just minutes after coming off the bench.
Duff said: “We’ve had some really really good chances – loads of them in the first half, then second half probably not as many but actually better chances, more clear-cut chances.

“In the last two home games we’ve had 52 shots and a centre-half has scored a goal. I can’t ask much more from the players. They’ve come off the pitch and given us everything.
“We went to Rotherham earlier this season, went down to 10 men, were winning the game 1-0 and lost the game, so I think that shows a shift in mentality and togetherness that we’re a better team now than we were then.
“You’ve got to be respectful: Rotherham aren’t a bad team. They came down with us last year.
“So the fact we’ve come off the pitch disappointed, I think in the past two home games we’ve done more than enough to take six points.
“It’s not like we’re not creating chances, so from my point of view, you can get them to a certain area of the pitch but you can’t kick the ball in the net for them.”
Rotherham manager Steve Evans had the opposite view on the game, however.
He said: “I think we’ve got to be disappointed we’ve not won the game.
“In the first half they looked a bit crisper than us, a bit sharper than us but that comes from the freshness of Huddersfield not having played [on New Year’s Day].
“We had to defend really well, we had the ball off the line, counter-attacking we were in the game with our aerial quality.
“At half time we just looked tactically at moving a few of the boys two or three yards into different areas of the pitch to open it up for us and I think it did. We missed some big chances, but they’ve worked incredibly hard.
“The red card happened right in front of me and I know they were complaining initially but I think they’ve got immediate footage on the bench and they quickly accepted it was a clear red card.
“We’ve pressed and pressed and counter-attacked trying to find the winner but when it came to that final bit of quality, we just didn’t get it out of the locker.”
