Michael Duff makes telling Huddersfield Town admission as January transfer update given
Huddersfield Town boss Michael Duff has revealed that he will be having “honest conversations with people” to inform them that their playing time is set to be limited off the back of the club’s January transfer business.
The Terriers have strengthened their squad over the past few weeks, bringing in Joe Taylor and Dion Charles up front, as well as Ruben Roosken at left wing-back.
Jaheim Headley left Town shortly after Roosken’s arrival and Duff has opened the door to the possibility of further departures should players wish to pursue more game time elsewhere.

However, the head coach insisted that current fringe players could still have a future at the club, citing Ollie Turton as an example of someone who has worked his way back into first-team contention.
“It’s not just in the centre-forward department, I think we are fairly full,” Duff said at a recent press conference. “We don’t have to offload people, but I’ll be having conversations, in terms of [telling players that their] game time will be limited, so if they want to further their career and play football (they might have to leave).
"Ultimately footballers are footballers, and they want to play football. That’s where you have honest conversations with people and go ‘look, your football might be limited’.
“That’s subject to change. I had a pretty similar conversation with Ollie Turton in the last window, and he’s started the last five, six or seven games.
“All I can do is be honest with people. They might not like it, but at least in ten years time, they’ll know it was an honest conversation, and then it’s up to them what they want to do with their career.
“There’s no ‘I have to get eight people out’ or anything like that because we’ve signed a couple of players, it’s ‘I think your game time’s going to be limited, I think if you want to do what you want to do, which is play football, it might have to be elsewhere’, so we’re quite happy to have those conversations with people.”
