Huddersfield Town head coach Michael Duff has stressed the importance of not looking “too far down the line” as his side aim to continue their strong run of form in League One.

The Terriers head into today’s clash at home to Lincoln City off the back of registering seven victories and two draws in their last nine league games. Town are chasing a fifth successive league win this afternoon, as well as an eighth straight victory at the John Smith’s Stadium in all competitions.

Town’s impressive form has propelled them to within five points of top spot, but Duff insists he is looking no further than the next challenge in front of his side.

“First and foremost, we want to win the first half on Saturday. I talk about it all the time, win the next half, don’t look too far down the line,” the head coach said at Thursday’s press conference.

“We’ve won seven at home, I’m not a believer that ‘oh you’ve won seven at home, so you’ll win the next one’, but I also don’t go the other way, where it’s ‘oh you’ve won seven on the spin, you’re bound to lose one or draw one eventually’ – not if you do it right you’re not.

“We’re at home, the supporters are hopefully starting to see that connection. A little bit at the end of Mansfield on Saturday, you could see something coming there, and that’s what we want to do. We want to win our home games, we want to turn this place into a fortress.

“I’m not really thinking of 13/14 games, I’m trying to make it eight on the spin at home, that’s all we’re focused on. I’ve been in it too long to get too far ahead of yourselves.

“We’re playing against a good team, so there’s no ‘well if you do this, what about that?’ Just do the first part, and then pick the next bit up. I think it’s the only way to be in this game, because the minute you think you’ve worked it out and start picking where you’re going to pick your points up, I think you’re in trouble.”

Town sit fourth in the League One table ahead of today’s game, with Duff’s side having claimed 35 points from 18 matches played this term. The Terriers host a side that are ninth in the division, with the Imps having registered 27 points from 19 games. Michael Skubala’s side are winless in their last six league games, but have won four cup matches since the beginning of November, with the Imps coming into today’s game off the back of a 1-0 win at Morecambe in the EFL Trophy on Tuesday.

Discussing this afternoon’s opponents, Duff said: “Lincoln have been on an upward trajectory for probably six or seven years now, and the fact that they’re in the company that they are shows that they’ve got good players, they’ve sold some good players, we’ve taken one of them, and they’ve got a good manager.

“They were really good in transitions last year. I know Mark Kennedy quite well who came in, so Mark got them really organised and hard to beat, and they didn’t concede many goals, and Michael’s almost gone onto the next step now of making them a threat going the other way.

“People like Joe Taylor last year, people like Lasse (Sorensen), on the transitions they were really, really good. They can play as well, with people like (Ethan) Erhahon, so they’re very similar to us, in terms of the way they want to play. They mix it up, they don’t just play one way. It’s not just play it out from the back, but they don’t just boot it either, so it’s very similar to what we want it to look like.”
