Michael Oliver is set to referee in the Premier League this weekend, despite facing death threats in the aftermath of Saturday’s red card controversy at Molineux.

Oliver showed a straight red card to Arsenal defender Myles Lewis-Skelly during the Gunners’s 1-0 victory over Wolves, a decision that was confirmed by VAR Darren England but heavily criticised by supporters and pundits alike.

Threats aimed at Oliver in the fallout have since prompted a police investigation and referee chiefs PGMOL issued a public statement on Sunday evening calling out the abuse.

“No official should be subject to any form of abuse, let alone the abhorrent attacks aimed at Michael and his family over the past 24 hours,” it said.

There had been suggestions that Oliver, rated as one of the country’s top officials, might be taken out of the firing line this weekend.

However, it has now been confirmed that he will take charge of the relegation clash between Ipswich and Southampton at Portman Road, as well as next week’s high-profile Merseyside derby between Liverpool and Everton, which has been rescheduled.

England, who was on VAR at Wolves, is also straight back in action as the on-field referee for Liverpool’s trip to in-form Bournemouth. Peter Bankes has been awarded Sunday’s clash between Arsenal and Manchester City.
