Michael Owen selects Everton man in Premier League team of the season as fans divided
Michael Owen prompted a debate among supporters on social media after he selected his Premier League team of the season so far.
Plenty of the usual suspects featured in it, with Virgil van Dijk, Cole Palmer and Mohamed Salah all getting the nod, but while few could argue against their inclusion, some soccer fans did not agree with Owen's choice of goalkeeper.
The former Liverpool striker plumped for Jordan Pickford between the sticks ahead of the likes of David Raya and Matz Sels. In fairness, Selz is the only goalkeeper to have kept more clean sheets than Pickford so far this season — he's got eight to Pickford's seven — but some supporters were unimpressed with Owen's choice regardless.

One X user wrote: "Pickford over Raya, what is your reason behind it, cause Raya is better in every department", while another said: "how did Pickford make it? lol".
Many Everton fans defended Owen's decision to choose Pickford in the replies, with one response to a tweet mocking the England goalkeeper's selection saying: "7 clean sheets. Saved 2 penalties. He's been absolutely immense. We'd be f----- without him. I'm sure if he played for one of the big six, you and many others would have a different opinion about him."
Meanwhile, Pickford has been told it's now or never if he wants to play for one of the so-called big clubs. Pickford, who joined Everton in 2017, will turn 31 in March and former England No.1 Paul Robinson suggested that he has what it takes to play at club higher up in the table after battling relegation with the Toffees for several years.
“There is talk of Jordan Pickford potentially leaving Everton," Robinson said over the weekend. "Given his age and where he is at in his career, it is really now or never if he is to go to a so-called bigger club. He is playing some of the best football he has played in a long time, he has mellowed and grown as a player.”
