Michael Owen has delivered a brutal verdict after Manchester United's defeat to Bournemouth in the Premier League.

United fell to a 3-0 defeat to the Cherries on Sunday afternoon at Old Trafford. Dean Huijsen opened the scoring for the visitors before Justin Kluivert doubled their lead from the penalty spot, and Antoine Semenyo rounded off the scoring.

Ruben Amorim has now overseen back-to-back defeats as United head coach following the loss to Tottenham Hotspur in the Carabao Cup last week. United are 13th in the Premier League table going into Christmas, where they will now face Wolves on Boxing Day before taking on Newcastle in their final match of the calendar year.

Noussair Mazraoui fouled Kluivert in the penalty area in the second half, which led to Bournemouth being awarded a spot-kick by referee Craig Pawson. Owen was asked if it was a "rash" challenge by the United full-back to give away the penalty, and the former striker went on to give a blunt verdict.

"You're being kind. A little rash? A little stupid, more like," Owen told Premier League Productions. "What on earth are you [Mazraoui] doing? Two players are waiting for him [Kluivert], he's not going to score from there and he dives in.

"Just stay on your feet and usher him away. It's just a poor, poor decision. The sad thing from Manchester United these days is they go 1-0 down and you never really think they're going to come back.

"They're not a good team. Ruben Amorim needs to be watching that game and ensure these players that are not performing do not put on the shirt again. He needs to be that brutal and that ruthless."
