Michael van Gerwen says he took great satisfaction in kicking-off his Premier League campaign with a triumph over Luke Littler.

The Dutch star gave the kid a telling-off prior to the contest following The Nuke turning up late for eve-of-tournament press event.
When it came time for van Gerwen’s darts to do the talking, they spoke loudly as well as he took care of the World Champion to book a semi-final clash with Luke Humphries. Littler barely did anything wrong with a staggering match average of almost 114, but the seven-times Premier League champ managed to get over the line having fluffed some earlier opportunities to seal the deal.

Having lost to the teenager in the World Championship Final and at the Dutch Darts Masters in his own backyard on Den Bosch, it was a big display from MVG. Speaking to Viaplay afterwards, he said: “We know I’ve come a long way and this is a highlight, although I could have finished it earlier.

"This is the opening of the Premier League, a difficult match, because we know what that boy can do. Then it gives a lot of satisfaction, but I don’t have anything yet, except two points.”

The defeat was another setback for Littler, who has run into some inspired performers since his Ally Pally triumph.
For the fourth straight event, he is out before the Final and now turns his attentions to Night Two at Glasgow’s Hydro.
