What Micky van de Ven did in Tottenham training return as clear six-word message sent
Micky van de Ven has returned to Tottenham Hotspur team training at the perfect time for Ange Postecoglou. The Netherlands international has played just one game since late October with two separate hamstring injuries seeing him miss nearly three months of action.
Cristian Romero has also been missing in that time which has mostly seen Radu Dragusin and Archie Gray feature at centre-back. The return of Ben Davies has helped matters but injuries for Djed Spence and Destiny Udogie has seen none of the trio either rested or eased back in gradually.
James Maddison is the latest player to join the list of absentees with Postecoglou confirming how long he would miss in a press conference while also offering three other injury updates. "Micky [Van de Ven] is good," he said. "He is good to go and we will try to get him some match minutes tomorrow. That’s the plan.

"Let’s see how much we can get out of him tomorrow. He has a good week/10 days training with the team and is in good condition so he is fine.
"In terms of the other guys, Madders has a calf strain so he is probably two to three weeks. He picked that up in the Hoffenheim game which was a week ago almost. Pape is okay, he still has got a bit of a niggle but he is okay and available. Biss is available. I think that is it for tomorrow night at this stage."
With several sessions under his belt, Van de Ven is ready to return and as confirmed by Postecoglou, will play a part in the Europa League clash against Elfsborg on Thursday.
The Spurs boss will be hoping to again use him against Brentford in Premier League action this weekend with the view to having his match sharpness up to scratch in time for two crucial cup games against Liverpool and Aston Villa.
While concern will understandably be high about the recurrence of an injury, Van de Ven looked sharp on the grass at Hotspur Way. In a four-and-a-half minute training clip uploaded to Spurs' social media channels, the centre-back was the focus as the video was captioned, "VAN DE VEN BACK IN TRAINING."
Though just some light warm-up drills and small-sided games were recorded, Van de Ven looked up to standard with another part of the video showing him working individually. One of the tasks saw him required to use that excellent recovery pace and Postecoglou will certainly be looking forward to seeing that back in his team.
