Middlesbrough could trigger January transfer clause as key next step for duo assessed
SAMMY Silvera could return to Middlesbrough this month, with Michael Carrick admitting Boro are considering recalling the winger from his Portsmouth loan.
Silvera has endured a difficult first half of the season at Fratton Park and Portsmouth's fans turned on the winger during their weekend defeat to Bristol City, calling for the loanee to be "sent back" to Boro.
Portsmouth boss John Mousinho called the chants "unfair" but dropped Silvera for yesterday's win over Swansea City, with the Australian international an unused substitute.
Silvera is due to spend the full season at Portsmouth but Boro do have the option of a recall this month and are now weighing up the best course of action with the winger.
Asked whether Silvera could be recalled, Carrick said: "There are possibilities, yeah.
"That’s not much more to give you. It’s that stage where we’re considering what’s best for us, for Sammy and what that looks like. We’ll wait and see on that one.”

Silvera hasn't featured for Boro this season, so if he did return it would be possible to send him to a different club for the second half of the season,
That's what Boro are likely to do with Zach Hemming, who has returned from his loan spell with Leyton Orient.
Hemming was initially expected to spend the full campaign with the League One club but after he lost his place in the team, Boro have recalled the keeper.
Carrick said: “We’ll assess it and see what’s next for Zach. At this stage, there’s not much to say, but he’ll likely be going back out."
Boro are currently short in goal, with Sol Brynn ruled out for three months and Seny Dieng currently unavailable. Tom Glover has started the last two games, with teenager Shea Connor on the bench.
Carrick added: "The current situation with the keepers is part of it really and makes the timing important. We’ll assess it and see what happens before the end of the month."
