MICHAEL Carrick remains in talks with Middlesbrough's recruitment team as they weigh-up their goalkeeper situation, with the head coach admitting it's an area they could look to address before the end of the transfer window.

With Sol Brynn out for up to three months after dislocating his shoulder against Sheffield Wednesday on Boxing Day and Seny Dieng still currently unavailable, Tom Glover is the only fit senior keeper on the books.

Shea Connor, who is just 19 and hasn't yet made a senior appearance, has been on the bench for the last four games, and will again be the deputy keeper when Boro take on Portsmouth at Fratton Park on Saturday.

Carrick is understandably keen to ensure Boro have enough cover and depth between the posts in the second half of the season. Bournemouth's Mark Travers is one keeper on Boro's radar. The 25-year-old is the Cherries' second choice keeper, with Kepa Arrizabalaga in possession of the gloves. The Chelsea loanee is reportedly keen on making his switch to Bournemouth permanent in the summer.

Reports claim Bournemouth would be open to the idea of letting Travers out on loan, but they were unwilling to do a deal before Tuesday's draw at Chelsea, when the four-time Republic of Ireland international had to step in - and impressed - in the absence of the ineligible Arrizabalaga. Travers also played against Everton prior to the Chelsea game with Kepa having just returned from Spain after the birth of twins. Watford are also said to be interest in Travers.

Quizzed on the goalkeeper situation, Carrick admitted: “It’s certainly something we’ve looked at and will continue to do so as the month goes on - assess where that lies and how it will work in terms of fitness and availability and also moving forward.

"It’s a constant discussion on that one really.”
