Middlesbrough are assessing their goalkeeper situation this January and could look to bring someone in, with Mark Travers an option if they do.

Boro have been credited with interest in the Bournemouth and Ireland goalkeeper, who could be available on loan this month. Teesside Live understands that Travers is a player that Boro would have interest in, should they decide definitively to add a goalkeeper this month.

They are currently assessing their goalkeeper options and whether that is neccesary. It follows Sol Brynn suffering a shoulder injury that is expected to keep him out until the end of March at the earliest. At the same time, Dieng has been absent since the start of December with a hip flexor issue and though he recently posted on social media to suggest he would be 'back soon', the issue is still keeping him out of action, with his return date uncertain. It leaves Boro with Tom Glover as their only senior option, with 19-year-old Shea Connor currently occupying the bench.

That makes signing a keeper this month a possibility for Boro and Travers is an option being explored, as Bournemouth appear likely to allow the 25-year-old to leave on loan. That said, Boro can be patient in assessing their options because the Cherries won't be able to let Travers leave until after next Tuesday's clash with Chelsea because first-choice keeper Kepa Arrizabalaga is on loan from the Blues and therefore ineligible for that game. Watford are also said to be interested.

Travers appears ideally suited to the way in which Michael Carrick likes his goalkeeper's to play. An excellent shot-stopper, he's also comfortable with the ball at his feet. Known to Jonathan Woodgate from his time coaching the Cherries, he was their number one when they won promotion back to the Premier League in 2022, and has since made 20 Premier League appearances while also spending the first three months of last season on loan at Stoke City.
