Middlesbrough have now won just one of their last seven as they were beaten 2-1 by Portsmouth.

Emmanuel Latte Lath put transfer speculation to one side to give Boro a first-half lead. However, a really poor second half saw Matt Ritchie score twice to down Michael Carrick’s side.

But with a poor all-round display, Boro dropped yet more points and lost their spot in the top-six. Here’s the ratings.

Tom Glover - 6

Unconvincing on a few occasions with his punching from crosses and particularly his kicking - one of which gifted Pompey a good first-half chance. Not much he could do with either goal, and made a big save at 1-1 that proved in vain.

Rav van den Berg - 5

Tough afternoon against the lively Josh Murphy as he had to do a job for Boro at right-back in the absence of Dijksteel. Almost gifted Pompey a winner with a poor backpass just before the winner, as an example of Boro’s soft game-management.

Dael Fry - 7

Largely at the back for Boro. He put in numerous big blocks, headers and tackles to protect Boro’s goal, and is unfortunate to be on the losing side.

George Edmundson - 6

More sloppy balls out from the back played into Pompey’s hands, particularly in the second half. Allowed Matt Ritchie in behind too easily for the first.

Neto Borges - 6

Set Burgzorg away for a number of counter attacks, including the one that resulted in Boro taking the lead. Let Ritchie in behind for the equaliser.

Dan Barlaser - 5

Another unspectacular display as the game passed him by. His set-piece taking continues to be a major issue.

Hayden Hackney - 6

Mixed performance. Full of busy in the first half in a lively display. But missed a big chance at 1-0 and epitomised Boro’s sloppy, meagre second half.

Ben Doak - 6

Not as influential as Burgzorg on the opposite flank, though that was more to do with Boro’s overall control of the game. He was lively when he did get the chance to go at his full-back but it wasn’t frequent enough. Worked hard defensively to support Van den Berg too, while doing well to stay composed after an early yellow card.

Finn Azaz - 5

Watched closely throughout, he didn’t get an awful lot of time on the ball, but he was unusually sloppy on a couple of occasions when it opened up for Boro on the counter but he couldn’t produce the right pass. Poor by his standards.

Delano Burgzorg - 7

Boro’s brightest attacking player, he led a number of promising counters throughout the afternoon and set up Latte Lath’s goal with one. The touch to initially beat his man was sublime. Went agonisingly close just a moment before Pompey’s equaliser too.

Emmanuel Latte Lath - 7

Continued his goalscoring form with his 11th of the season - a trademark round-the-keeper, composed finish. Worked hard as he showed no signs of letting transfer talk distract him.

Substitutions

Lukas Engel (for Borges, 69’) - 5 - Poor defending for Pompey’s winner.

Luke Ayling (for Van den Berg, 89’) - N/A

Marcus Forss (for Azaz, 89’) - N/A
