Middlesbrough predicted line-up for West Brom as Michael Carrick looks for Portsmouth reaction
Michael Carrick will be contemplating whether to make any changes to his Middlesbrough side on Tuesday evening for the clash with West Brom, as he looks for a reaction to Saturday's defeat to Portsmouth.
Heading into the game with the same squad as the weekend, on the one hand, Boro have lacked consistency in selection and could maybe benefit from giving the players who played an opportunity to put things right. On the other, there are players waiting in the wings who will be desperate for their chance as errors proved costly and could cost certain players their place in the side.
Working with the same squad as the one that travelled to Fratton Park for the 2-1 defeat, it means Carrick can once again call upon star striker Emmanuel Latte Lath despite transfer interest. Seny Dieng, Luke Ayling and Aidan Morris returned too, but will surely be unlikely to start. Here's our predicted Boro team.

GK - Tom Glover - Though Seny Dieng is now fit again, Carrick all but confirmed that Glover will start on Tuesday night. Though there's been one or two sloppy passes during his spell in goal, in general he's done well and made some good saves.
DR - Rav van den Berg - Van den Berg will likely have to continue at right-back in this one with Dijksteel still out and Ayling unlikely to be ready to start yet. He struggled at Portsmouth but has the right temperament to not let that affect him.
DC - Dael Fry - Another solid outing at Portsmouth, Fry was unlucky to be on the losing side. He's had a solid return from a nine-month layoff.
DC - George Edmundson - A little sloppy in recent weeks, there's a strong argument that Matt Clarke would deserve to come in for this one. However, Carrick seems to favour Edmundson right now, and is keen to sign the Ipswich loanee permanently, which makes it likely he retains his place. A bit of consistency might do Boro good too.
DL - Neto Borges - Boro are pursuing a deal to sign Ryan Giles this month, but Borges in the main, was solid at Portsmouth. He did have one lapse in concentration though and it led to Pompey's equaliser. He needs to step up as competition looks likely to ramp up.
CM - Dan Barlaser - Aidan Morris's return at the weekend felt like a big moment in Boro's season as Barlaser has ultimately once again struggled to grasp the nettle during this extended period in the side. Morris came off the bench for 20 minutes at Pompey, albeit after limited training. It still feels soon to push the USA star back in from the start.
CM - Hayden Hackney - Hackney is going through a bit of a funk right now, which probably coincides with losing Morris as his partner for the past two months. Nevertheless, a player of his quality will be expecting to have more influence in games than he has of late, with Boro struggling to win the midfield battle at Fratton Park.
RW - Ben Doak - While his ambition in games has not changed, the attention he gets from opposition sides has certainly ramped up in recent months. As such, he's found life tough of late and Boro could really do with having their Liverpool loan star re-finding his form to help them pick up results.
AM - Finn Azaz - Like Doak, Azaz is finding himself an increasingly targeted man by opposition defenders. As a player who thrives off space and what he can do in the pockets, it's far from ideal. He had a rare off day at Portsmouth but will be looking to bounce back in this one.
LW - Delano Burgzorg - Boro's brightest attacking spark at Pompey, Burgzorg set up the goal, almost set up another and almost scored one of his own too. He's enjoying a really good period right now, and though Riley McGree's injury makes it unlikely he loses his place anyway, Burgzorg would deserve his spot regardless.
ST - Emmanuel Latte Lath - Atlanta United may be trying to sign Latte Lath this month but, as yet, the 26-year-old remains a Boro player. Having scored his 11th of the season at the weekend, there appears no sign of letting such talk distract him in any way.
