Millwall have made an equiry to sign Anfernee Dijksteel on loan before the end of the transfer window, and Middlesbrough would be open to the defender's exit.

The Lions, who also have interest in making Josh Coburn's loan move at the Den a permanent one, have made an enquiry to Boro, as first reported to South London Press. They've identified the right-back as a signing, with the 28-year-old known to director of football Steve Gallen, who held the same role at Charlton when Dijksteel played there.

Dijksteel has played a bigger role at Boro this term than in recent seasons and has earned praise from Michael Carrick for his performances. However, out of contract at the end of the season and a high-earner on Teesside, Boro would be open to the Suriname international's exit this month, providing the financial terms of the deal were acceptable. They're in no desperate need to offload him.

Equally, Boro would only sanction an exit if they were able to sign a replacement - which is a similar scenario now with Dan Barlaser who has interest from Derby County this month. They have targets in mind and will work on them, but will only allow Dijksteel to leave if there is a replacement lined up.

They are close to signing Celtic youngster Josh Dede. The 19-year-old is a right-back but is considered a development signing at this stage and will initially link-up with the under-21 squad. It is not expected that he would be considered a replacement for Dijksteel.

Dijksteel is said to have interest from more than just Millwall and, indeed, Boro were forced to turn away enquiries in the summer due to Tommy Smith's injury. Since joining from Charlton in 2019, he has made 137 appearances for the club.
