MARK Travers is set to be Middlesbrough's next signing, with the goalkeeper heading for Teesside to undergo his medical after a loan deal was agreed with Bournemouth.

It's a major boost for Boro, who prioritised the capture of a goalkeeper in the final week of the window following serious injuries to Sol Brynn and Seny Dieng.

Travers was Boro's top target but the Championship club have had to be patient in their pursuit, with the Cherries delaying the move until third choice keeper Will Dennis had recovered from injury.

But the move got the green light on Tuesday night and Travers was heading north to complete the move. He'll join on loan until the end of the season.

Travers, a four-time Ireland international, has played 70 league games for Bournemouth and also enjoyed a short but impressive loan spell at Stoke City last season. He's played five times in the Premier League this season.

Signing a keeper was a must for Boro this week, with Tom Glover left as Michael Carrick's only senior option after Brynn and Dieng's injuries.

The arrival of Travers, providing there are no last minute hitches, will be another significant boost in what is proving to be a productive and impressive end to the January window on Teesside. Ryan Giles, George Edmundson and Morgan Whittaker all signed last week, and Boro are still hoping to strengthen in midfield ahead of Monday's deadline.
