Loan midfielder Harrison Biggins has left Carlisle United.

The Blues have confirmed that the midfielder has returned to parent club Shrewsbury Town.

Biggins, 28, spent the first half of the season with the Blues after joining on transfer deadline day.

But now his season-long loan has been cut short at a time head coach Mike Williamson is overhauling the squad at Brunton Park.

“We’d like to thank Biggo for his efforts during his time with us," said Williamson on the club website.

“He’s had a couple of little injuries which were disappointing for him and us, but his attitude and energy during his time with us has been excellent and we wish him all the best for the future.”

He is the third loan player to leave United in recent days after the recalls of Daniel Adu-Adjei and Dominic Sadi by AFC Bournemouth.

And his departure comes after a glut of midfielders joined Carlisle in the January transfer window so far.

Biggins was Paul Simpson's final signing at Brunton Park, joining a day before the manager's departure.

Neither United nor Shrewsbury's public comments confirmed whether it was the Blues' or the Shrews' decision to end the loan.

Shrewsbury boss Gareth Ainsworth, though, believes Biggins can make his mark in League One, having joined the Shrews from Doncaster Rovers last summer.

"He has come back into the building this morning and I met him in person," Ainsworth told the Shrewsbury website.

“He’s up for the fight and wants to contribute, and has come back with a bit between his teeth, which I like.

“Players sometimes thrive under different managers and I am hoping Harrison will thrive under me.

“Looking at his footage tells me he's my time type of player. He covers ground, he's physical and he will put a tackle in.

“He was brought here with good intentions and purposes to play for Shrewsbury Town and so far he hasn’t and I intend to change that.”

Biggins could now return to the Shrewsbury ranks for Thursday's third-tier home clash with Wrexham.

United's midfield arrivals this month have so far included Will Patching, Elliot Embleton, Callum Whelan, Sean Fusire and Stephen Wearne.
