Reading youngster Michael Craig has spoken of his switch from midfield to defence, admitting he will 'do whatever the manager needs'.

The 21-year-old was signed from Tottenham Hotspur in 2022 and is edging toward a century of appearances for the club in that time, particularly nailing down a regular spot in the last 18 months.

Despite arriving as a midfielder, the versatile performer has excelled at full-back during the club's injury crisis in recent months as club captain Andy Yiadom has spent the last year on the side-line nursing an injury.

Impressing out of position to such a degree that his preferred position is now under question, the understated personality will certainly make the skipper work for his place back in the side.

Picking up back-to-back clean sheets in a win over Bolton Wanderers and draw at Huddersfield Town, Craig has remained coy on his favoured position.

"I definitely feel like I’ve gotten a lot more comfortable in the position as the season has gone on," he said in Huddersfield. "I’ll be the first to say that I don’t think today was my best performance but last week I think I played well.

"Ultimately, I’m going to do whatever the manager needs of me and at the moment, that is at right-back. If at some point that changes back to midfield then I’m happy to do that as well."

Reading, sat eighth in League One, host Shrewsbury Town and Rotherham United this week as an unlikely play-off push continues under Noel Hunt.
