Charlotte FC have confirmed their move for Newcastle United star Miguel Almiron. As reported by Chronicle Live today, Newcastle have given Almiron the green light to leave St James’ Park.

It is now down to the MLS club to agree a fee with Newcastle with wages and personal terms not thought to be a problem. United also have interest from River Plate with talk of a new offer coming from the Argentinian club.

Charlotte’s Christian Fuchs confirmed the talks and said: “He’s a great player but I don’t really want to talk about him as he hasn’t signed yet. There are always a lot of names being associated with Charlotte FC and all I know is that once it is signed, Almiron will be a great addition to our club and I would really look forward to him joining us and playing for us.

“We are very ambitious, coming up into our fourth year and it has been a steady progression within the club, within the MLS and we are really looking forward to getting going again. We are coming back on January 12th, going into pre season, and it is going to be a great season ahead.”

Almiron had been close to a deal with Charlotte in the summer transfer window, but the MLS side were not able to meet Newcastle's valuation for the winger. However, fresh negotiations have been on going in the last two weeks.

Toronto FC are also monitoring the situation, but it appears as though a deal worth around £16m could soon by agreed for the Paraguay international.
