Newcastle United will accept a fee of around £10million from Atlanta United for Miguel Almiron.

The Magpies have been in talks with the Major League Soccer side they paid £21million to in 2019 and if his wages can be agreed, United won't stand in Almiron's way if he wants to go. Almiron potentially left the field for the last time in a Newcastle shirt last night after the 3-0 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers.

United have been approached by Almiron's old club Atlanta United of Major League Soccer. The Paraguay international has been unable to find a place in Eddie Howe's team and is free to leave.

Almiron had been the subject of a bid from Charlotte FC, but despite winning the negotiating rights for his signature, they have stepped aside and allowed Atlanta to move into pole position. The £10m exit would bring the curtain down on his career on Tyneside after six years.

When asked about Almiron's exit, Howe said last night: "Nothing has hit me or come across my radar." But the negotiations are said to be advanced with the player's agent Daniel Campos looking to get his client a January move.

Howe had previously said on Almiron: "We're not blessed with a huge number of wide players so anyone that we have here is vitally important and Miggy has always proved for us how effective he is when he does play. I'd say the same for any player until the day that they leave that their future is here and he needs to focus on the next game."

His agent Daniel Campos had said: "They are willing to transfer him if they are paid what they want. I don't know how much the amount is and we refer all the clubs that ask us."

In August last year, Charlotte made a late approach to try to sign Almiron before their deadline. Almiron joined the Magpies under Rafa Benitez from the MLS club in 2019 for around £21m.

When asked about the bid from Fenerbahce on Lloyd Kelly, Howe, who included him in his squad against Wolves, said: "I’ve got nothing to give you on that. I’ve been preparing for the game. I know there’s lots of rumours about lots of different things, but nothing has hit me yet."
