Mikel Arteta admits Arsenal summer transfer hope after January window disappointment
Mikel Arteta faced the media ahead of Arsenal’s Carabao Cup quarter-final second-leg clash with Newcastle United. The press conference came just a day after the close of the January transfer window.
Despite the 5-1 win over Manchester City, it feels like the energy has dissipated by a considerable amount as a result. The hope will be that this is not the case from the players who have all the motivation to try and turn around the result.
Naturally, there was plenty of focus on Arteta’s view of Arsenal’s empty window. Arteta provided some insight into why the window ended empty handed.

"We had a clear intention which is there is a window open," he said. "For the players that can impact it, we haven't achieved it.
"We are disappointed. But we are very aware that we only want to bring certain types of players."
There was a good question about whether the lack of deals would open up more money for the summer. His response reference, with a smile, that this is certainly a hope for him.
He said: "An extra card! I don't know, what I mean about that is the means that can make us much better financially."
