Mikel Arteta confirms January transfer plan as Arsenal chiefs given four-man striker shortlist
Mikel Arteta will hope Arsenal can pick up from where they left off this weekend. The Gunners will host Aston Villa at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday afternoon as they both look to climb the Premier League table.
On Wednesday night, Arsenal enjoyed a 2-1 win against Tottenham Hotspur. While the Gunners waltzed away victorious – for the first time since New Year's day – they were down to their bare bones, calling on Kieran Tierney of all players to help see out the tie.
This month, Arteta will be eager to capitalise on his side's great momentum and welcome a few new faces to London Colney. So, with that being said, football.london has rounded up the latest Arsenal news and transfer gossip.

Arteta confirms plan to sign a new striker
Mikel Arteta has confirmed that he wants to sign a new striker before the January transfer window slams shut. Speaking to reporters after the North London Derby, as quoted by Fabrizio Romano, the Arsenal boss was asked if he'll look to bring any new faces to the Emirates Stadium this month.
He said: "For sure we are going to try on the market and we want to reinforce attack. We've lost two big players, Bukayo [Saka] for up for three months and Gabriel Jesus will be out for a long time."
Prior to the clash against Tottenham Hotspur, Arteta claimed he has a 'very clear idea' of who he wants to sign. The Spaniard said: "We know who we want to sign.
"We have very clear ideas of the players that we want, yes. It was before Gabriel Jesus' injury and it was with Gabi injured right now and we have to wait and see how things develop."
football.london says: "Arsenal should do whatever it takes to sign either Alexander Isak or Viktor Gyokeres. It'll be tough, but it could be the difference between winning the Premier League or not. The Gunners need to go big. Take a risk."
Ferdinand names perfect Arsenal signing
Rio Ferdinand has urged Arsenal to sign Karim Benzema from Al-Ittihad, while Ally McCoist singled out Victor Osimhen as an option. Speaking on TNT Sports ahead of the North London Derby, the Scotsman said: "They need a goalscorer, it’s simple.
"You look at Havertz, the little bit of the stick he’s receiving is a little bit harsh because he’s not an out-and-out goalscorer. I think Havertz is one of those players who would score as many goals coming off the left, or as a number ten, as he would as a number nine.
"It’s not rocket science, the chances that Arsenal are creating, a proper out-and-out, six-yard box predator will score goals. I’d go and get Osimhen. He’s still been scoring goals in Turkey, his form is not what it was 18 months ago with Napoli but I think he can get there again"
The former Manchester United defender added: "I’d go and get Benzema. I’d say give me a six-month loan, have that."
football.london says: "Karim Benzema and Victor Osimhen would tick the box, but they're nowhere near the quality of Alexander Isak or Viktor Gyokeres! It's a decent four-man shortlist, but two of which are on just another level."
Rice singles out ‘ridiculous’ Arsenal teammate
Declan Rice heaped praise on Myles Lewis-Skelly following his ‘ridiculous’ and ‘scary’ performance in Arsenal's win over Tottenham. Speaking on TNT Sports, the former West Ham midfielder said: "The young boy Myles again is just unbelievable, for 18 what he showed tonight is just ridiculous.
"It’s scary, the 18-year-olds now have got no fear, they’ve got no fear whatsoever. I think there were four or five times in the second half, he’s got that Moussa Dembele trait, he uses his body to get away from stuff. Sometimes, yeah, it’s risky but to show that at 18 and the personality and character, honestly, it’s unbelievable.
"Do you know what as well, I’m going to mention them because they’re Spurs players but Archie Gray and [Lucas] Bergvall, they’re both 18 as well and they’re playing week in, week out, Mikey Moore, there’s guys in the Prem now who are playing and they are younger and younger and they’ve got no fear, it’s so good to see."
football.london says: "Myles Lewis-Skelly was brilliant against Tottenham. He's taken to life in the Premier League like a duck to water. Really impressive!"
