Mikel Arteta gave his reaction to the Champions League draw against PSV Eindhoven while also giving an update on the recovery of Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli. The hope will be that the Gunners might be able to call on the pair for their later European matches should they qualify.

Arsenal have had such poor luck when it comes to injuries, with Takehiro Tomiyasu being the fourth player in the last few months to undergo a procedure to correct a major injury. They are without a natural striker now, and that has seen Mikel Merino rise into the ascendency.

Thankfully there were no new injuries from the 2-0 win at Leicester. When asked for the latest team news on Friday during his pre-match press conference ahead of Saturday's clash vs West Ham, he said: “No real news to be fair. The ones that are long term they remain unavailable.”

On Ben White, though, he has returned although Arteta did stop short of committing to him starting against West ham: “He’s ready to play, whether it's to start it's a decision we will make tomorrow.”

football.london asked Arteta whether or not the likes of Saka or Martinelli could have a chance of featuring against PSV in either of the Champions League legs. Arteta stopped short of denying this but offered perhaps a glimmer of hope.

“I’m not sure. That’s a question for the doctor. Both are going really well. Martinelli is a bit ahead of Bukayo but they will have to see. How the boys are feeling and what we are prepared to do.”

Arsenal take on West Ham at 3pm UK time on Saturday, and you can follow all the build-up and action on the football.london matchday blog.
