Mikel Arteta has new Hale End star to unleash after Martinelli injury which could save millions
Gabriel Martinelli's latest injury blow has left Arsenal short in attack. The 23-year-old Brazilian is facing more than a month on the sidelines after suffering a hamstring issue during their 2-0 defeat at Newcastle on Wednesday.
He is set to miss Premier League fixtures against Leicester, West Ham and Nottingham Forest, while becoming doubtful for the trip to Manchester United on Sunday, March 9 and the visit of Chelsea a week later.
The Champions League round of 16 is also staged around that period, and while the Gunners do not know when and who they are going to be playing, Martinelli could be out for one or both of those knockout matches.

Losing such a key player, especially from a forward line already depleted, is a massive blow to Mikel Arteta's side. Martinelli's absence comes after Gabriel Jesus suffered an Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) injury last month and Bukayo Saka tore his hamstring against Crystal Palace in December. Jesus is out for at least the rest of the season, while Saka is not expected to return until March at the earliest.
Arteta admitted on Tuesday that Arsenal were "disappointed" not to sign anyone during the January transfer window, as they continue to mull over their lack of goalscoring threat up front. Kai Havertz scored in the 5-1 win over Manchester City last weekend but has not been at his best this season, while Raheem Sterling, Leandro Trossard and Ethan Nwaneri are the Gunners' only other senior fit attacking options right now.
This could leave Arsenal with a huge gaping problem in their pursuit of winning the Premier League title, though Arteta has the option of dipping into the club's academy system to see if he can unearth another gem.
Nwaneri, 17, who has enjoyed a fine breakthrough season with seven goals in 23 appearances, has been handed a chance by Arteta, while Myles Lewis-Skelly, 18, has been immense since his debut back in September.
Another starlet that could be given an opportunity is 17-year-old sensation Andre Harriman-Annous. The teenager has scored 12 times and provided two assists in 22 appearances across all competitions this season. His preferred position is as the central forward, but can be used on either wing or in the No.10 role. Harriman-Annous' most recent appearance came as a second-half substitute for Arsenal Under 21s against West Ham on Friday.
While there is no suggestion that Harriman-Annous is going to be called up by Arteta, he has a bright future and is an option for the Spaniard to bolster his squad. The same goes to Khayon Edwards, 21, who has seven goals in 12 matches this season, and Salah-Eddine Oulad M'Hand, 21. Max Dowman, 15, and Osman Kamara, 18, are among the other alternatives that Arteta can call upon from the Hale End academy.
