Mikel Arteta has offered a clear verdict on Matheus Cunha ahead of his side facing Wolves in the Premier League alongside Arsenal transfer links. The Gunners travel to Molineux this Saturday in search of another victory after beating Dinamo Zagreb in the Champions League on Wednesday.

Having lost Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Jesus to long-term injuries, Arteta has confirmed that Arsenal are in the market for a forward with his latest transfer admission reiterating that stance. Speaking in a press conference on Friday morning, he said: "Have I ever said no to a striker?

"We lost two very important players in Saka and Jesus, we lack goals and options in the front, it's clear. If we can get the right player, that's what we're actively looking at." When asked about the players' thoughts on new signings, he added: "They've all been there, we have very short numbers for many weeks, they recognise the situation.

"Sometimes I consult the players on signings, especially if they know them. It's away from the computer and the data, they can sense it, they know about them." One of the attackers that has been linked to sealing a January move to Arsenal is Cunha with the Brazil international likely having the chance to impress Arteta this weekend.

Nottingham Forest are also interested in signing the 25-year-old with Wolves set to demand £60million for an exit to be sanctioned. Unsurprisingly, given those links and the fact Arsenal will play against Cunha very soon, Arteta was directly asked about the forward.

"I prefer not to talk about individuals, I prefer to talk about the collective and they have a lot of talent," he admitted. remaining coy on the subject. As an alternative to Cunha, RB Leipzig's Benjamin Sesko has been on Arsenal's radar since last summer before he opted to remain in Germany for the time being and sign a new contract.

Though links to Arsenal have ramped up over the last few weeks, it looks highly unlikely that Sesko will make the switch this month unless a lucrative offer is submitted with a loan move all but ruled out.
