Arteta transfer decision

Mikel Arteta faces a January transfer decision over the short-term future of goalkeeper Tommy Setford, with clubs showing an interest in a loan deal.

According to the Athletic , Arsenal has received interest in the former Ajax man, but will only contemplate letting him go if an experienced replacement comes in. Setford is currently third choice at the Emirates Stadium.

Given the market around goalkeepers in January, it makes it unlikely that Arsenal will be able to bring in the replacement, meaning that Setford is expected to stay with the club.

FL says : In an ideal world, Setford would be sent out on a temporary deal. But I think the approach of only letting him go if a replacement comes in is the right one.

If there’s an injury to Raya during the remainder of the season, then Arteta will need Setford to step up as cover. Planning for situations such as that in advance is only a good thing.

Transfer message sent

Arsenal are reportedly showing an interest in Wolves’ forward Matheus Cunha, with the player showing why they should move for him with his performance against Manchester United.

The Telegraph report that Arsenal hold an interest in the 25-year-old following an injury to Bukayo Saka, but they could find Wolves difficult to deal with given his importance to the team fighting against relegation at the end of the season.

Cunha was in action for Wolves against United on Thursday, and scored the opening goal straight from a corner. Wolves went onto win the game 2-0.

FL says : Cunha has proven himself to be a match winner for Wolves and you can never have too many of them in your squad, especially if you are going for a title. While Wolves could be difficult to deal with, they have shown that they will cash in on their players under the current ownership, so it’s something that Arsenal could potentially pursue.
