Mikel Arteta told Arsenal PSR truth as key transfer delayed despite transfer plea
Mikel Arteta has been told where Arsenal stand in accordance to with the Premier League's Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR). Earlier this month, the Gunners were found to have not breached regulations after submitting their accounts for the latest three-year period ahead of the New Year's Eve deadline.
Under PSR, clubs in the English top flight are not permitted to record losses that exceed £105m over a three-year window; a figure that reduced by £22m for every season a team isn't in the Premier League. Arsenal were declared compliant, avoiding punishment of any sort, such as a point deduction or fine.
Despite having been given the green light and turning a new leaf, the board are still yet to answer Arteta's prayers. On numerous occasions this month, the Spaniard has publicly expressed his desire to welcome at least one new face to the Emirates Stadium, but he's been ignored.

Speaking to reporters after Arsenal drew 2-2 with Aston Villa, Arteta claimed he had 'very short' options in attack, with Raheem Sterling being the only fit senior forward on the bench. He compared the Gunners' bleak squad depth to Liverpool, who recently called on Darwin Nunez off the bench to salvage a win against Brentford.
"When you look at the performances, I don’t know how many teams are playing at this level on the league, but when you look at the bench, probably you say, I think we are very short," said Arteta. "There are moments, obviously. They (Liverpool) managed to do that.
"They made the subs and the subs made the impact - and they managed to change the game. And, in our side, it was the opposite, even though after conceding the two goals very close to each other, the danger was because I knew how the team was we could go downhill because we were physically drained."
Despite asking for reinforcements in the January transfer window, Arteta might have to wait until the summer. According to the MailOnline, Arsenal will sign Martin Zubimendi at the end of the season.
The report states that the Gunners want to bring Zubimendi to the Emirates Stadium this month, but Real Sociedad have insisted that the midfielder sees out the campaign. Speaking to Football Insider, Stefan Borson addressed concerns that a deal has been delayed due to PSR.
"I think the actual transaction itself appears to be a no-brainer at that fee for a player of his quality," said the football finance expert. "He’s been pursued by Liverpool last summer and probably by Man City this winter.
"But it sounds like he gave City a clear answer he didn’t want to go, so they moved on pretty quickly. We don’t know for sure, but that would be my guess. But Arsenal have clearly done a deal, he wants to go in the summer.
"It’s a great deal for Arsenal at that price. It’s low risk given the quality. I don’t think it’s a PSR situation why they are signing him in the summer, I think it’s simply a case of that works for all parties for him to move in the summer."
