Hull KR have given Mikey Lewis one of the ultimate honours after unretiring the club's iconic number six jersey for the reigning Man of Steel. The shirt, synonymous with the club's greatest player, Roger Millward, has returned to use with the blessing of his family.

'Roger the Dodger' rose to legendary status within the sport, making 406 appearances for the Robins, in which time he secured the 1980 Challenge Cup and the first Premiership and Championship double in the 1983-84 season, forever engraving his name in Hull KR's history.

Millward passed away in 2016 at the age of 68 after a tough battle with cancer, and as a tribute, his iconic shirt was retired. However, the club has now decided to bring it back into use and the honour will be bestowed on Lewis, who has emerged as Rovers' shining light during their recent rise.

The halfback has become an instrumental figure at his club, racking up 101 appearances and crossing the try-line 51 times. The 23-year-old has featured in the club's recent appearances in the Challenge Cup and Super League Grand Finals and also represented England.

The current Man of Steel said: "To wear that shirt next year will be very special, and emotional for a lot of people, because that’s how many hearts Roger Millward touched in a Hull KR shirt.

"I can’t wait to run out in that first game at Sewell Group Craven Park and to have that number on the back of my shirt with my name on it, in the memory of Roger, will be really special. To make that number 6 proud and make it my own.

Millward's wife, Carol Millward, added: "It’s quite emotional. Watching Mikey play reminds me very much of Roger’s style of play. I think he’s worthy of it and I’m happy for it to be passed on. I’m sure Roger would be proud to see him wear it."
