Mikey Moore and the five Tottenham players who may replace Timo Werner in squad to face Chelsea

Ange Postecoglou could turn to youth to plug the potential gap on his Tottenham bench for Thursday evening's Premier League match at Chelsea.

Timo Werner came off just half an hour into Sunday's north London derby with a hamstring problem and the German did not look too positive about the injury when he left the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium after the match had finished. Postecoglou will deliver an update on the injury to the on-loan winger in his press conference on Wednesday at Hotspur Way.

If Werner is unavailable then Spurs' other injury problems, with Destiny Udogie, Ryan Sessegnon, Manor Solomon and Fraser Forster all ruled out, mean the head coach may have to turn to some of his younger players to take their place on the bench.

Here are five potential options for Postecoglou to select for the bench:

Oliver Skipp

The 23-year-old's return would depend on whether he has recovered from the training ground knock that prevented him from being available for the North London Derby.

It's been a tough time for Skipp, without a minute of football since early February and the midfielder hasn't been named in six of the past seven matchday squads.

Even if he is fit, Postecoglou might decide he needs another attacking option to replace Werner on the bench.

Dane Scarlett

With Richarlison likely to come into the starting line-up, Postecoglou will need another striker in the squad.

That could hand Dane Scarlett a chance to return to the matchday squad and take his place on the bench.

It hasn't been the best season for the 20-year-old forward with a tough spell at Ipswich but he could end it with some minutes here and there for the first team.

Mikey Moore

It seems mad to be suggesting a 16-year-old, especially one who hasn't even played for the Under-21s this season, could be on the bench for a Premier League match.

However, Mikey Moore has been wowing the staff and the head coach in recent weeks.

"Mikey has been really good. Look he's a very talented boy and for him, he's had a fairly disrupted season, he's had a couple of injuries, but when he's performed, he's performed really well," Postecoglou told football.london on Friday. "The reports I've had on him have always been outstanding. It's been good to have him.

"Obviously we've had a couple of weeks without a game and it's been good to get him involved in the first team. Again, to be fair to him he has adapted really well, he hasn't looked out of place and it's great for him. Hopefully it gives encouragement to him and some of the other guys who are coming through."

Moore was taken with to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday for the experience as the 21st man and would have come into the squad had there been injury or illness in the warm-up.

There is a strong possibility the teenage attacker could find himself on the flight to the post-season match in Melbourne against Newcastle and then the summer tour to Japan and Korea before he turns 17 in August.

With the Under-21s also playing on Thursday night in the Premier League Cup semi-finals against Nottingham Forest, Postecoglou might see including Moore as less disruptive to the academy than calling someone else up.

Jamie Donley

If there is one player who has earned the chance this season to return to the Premier League action from Tottenham's academy it is Jamie Donley.

The 19-year-old has appeared in the league three times for Postecoglou and once in the FA Cup, all late cameos from the bench. He has been involvement in goals galore this season for the Under-21s with 12 assists and five goals in Premier League 2 alone.

Donley would earn a spot on merit but it's whether Postecoglou wants to deprive Wayne Burnett of the talented attacking midfielder for the Under-21s' semi-final on the same night.

Yago Santiago

Another option for Postecoglou would be to provide more of a straight swap from the academy for Werner in the shape of 21-year-old Yago Santiago.

The left winger has been on the bench three times already for Tottenham this season in the Premier League and once in the FA Cup. The Spaniard has eight goals and seven assists in 17 Premier League 2 games during this campaign.

Again though, it's whether Postecoglou wants to take him away from that semi-final against Forest.
