Millwall caretaker manager David Livermore was delighted to come out on top against a Rovers side who are “very tough” to play against.

Substitute Mihailo Ivanovic scored a last-gasp winner at the Den as John Eustace’s men saw their win streak in the Championship come to an end.

Livermore opted to bring on Ivanovic for the final 25 minutes in the hope that his “physical presence” would help find a breakthrough against Rovers' experienced centre-backs.

"A tough game against an opponent in form who are very good out of possession and made it very tough for us,” he told BBC Radio London.

“I thought it was a scrappy game but territorially I think the ball was in their half more without us creating big chances.

“There is nothing better at The Den than scoring in the 90 plus whatever it was, such a fantastic result for us.

"At 0-0 I just wanted to be positive. They had two very experienced centre-halves in Dom Hyam and Danny Batth, I felt the physical presence might help us win the game.

"This week, we have kept it really consistent. Before the game we talked about being a team who always wants to try and score the next goal - whether we are winning, losing or drawing.”

Rovers finished the game with 10 men after skipper Lewis Travis picked up an injury and all substitution slots had been used.

“There is a bit of luck with our opponent being down to 10 men and having used all their subs,” admitted Livermore, who was in the dugout following Neil Harris' departure.

“But we tweaked it slightly putting Duncan (Watmore) down the left and Aidomo (Emakhu) down the middle – get Duncan and Rom inside to overload it and get our full-backs on. They were only playing one up top at the time.

“Hopefully, that had a benefit to us winning the game but sometimes you’re better off being lucky than good. We edged it.”
