Milos Kerkez to Liverpool transfer latest - Bournemouth stance, Robertson replacement verdict
Liverpool are yet to make any January transfer window signings, following a quiet summer at Anfield as well. The Reds appointed Arne Slot as Jurgen Klopp's successor following the German's decision to step down almost exactly one year ago.
Giorgi Mamardashvili and Federico Chiesa were the only major arrivals to reinforce the playing squad, although neither can yet be considered an absolute success. Mamardashvili was immediately loaned straight back to Valencia, while Chiesa has had a slow start to life in the Premier League following his £12.5m move from Juventus.
That has not stopped the transfer rumours from continuing, though, with Liverpool reportedly weighing up a bid for Bournemouth left-back Milos Kerkez to provide some much-needed defensive reinforcement as Slot looks to capture the Premier League title in his first attempt. Kerkez has recorded two goals and three assists in 23 appearances so far for the coastal club who are enjoying a strong year under Spaniard Andoni Iraola.

If he were to sign, the 21-year-old could potentially serve as an understudy to Andrew Robertson before replacing the Scotsman when his contract expires in the summer of 2026. Here, the ECHO takes a look at the latest reports linking Liverpool to Kerkez.
Bournemouth stance
Kerkez's club Bournemouth do not want to sell him this month, according to a recent report from talkSPORT. The report says Bournemouth will not sanction a sale this month due to the fact that the prospect of qualifying for European football next season is becoming 'increasingly likely'.
However, a previous report from CaughtOffside has claimed the player could be available this month - should an offer of around £40million be tabled.
Manchester United competition
Arch-rivals Manchester United have reportedly been following Kerkez closely. The Manchester Evening News reports United are among the clubs interested in Kerkez - and the rivals Manchester City will also be in the market for a left-back in the summer.
But it appears the Old Trafford outfit have already sounded out alternatives to Kerkez with the club preparing a more-than €30 million bid for Leece’s Patrick Dorgu, according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano. Romano posted: "Manchester United’s new bid for Patrick Dorgu is now imminent, it will be over €30m after initial one was rejected. Lecce and Man United are negotiating as Dorgu remains the top target at LWB."
Robertson replacement verdict
Former Liverpool midfielder Dietmar Hamann has urged the Reds to sign Kerkez as Andy Robertson's replacement at left-back, with the Scotland international having a mixed time so far this season.
"Milos Kerkez is a brilliant player. We see it time and time again in the Premier League. If you play well, you will gain a lot of interest," Hamann told Boyle Sports, via the Mirror. "Andy Robertson is in his late 20s and Kostas Tsimikas is a great back up - but he has wanted to leave for the past two seasons now. It’s a position Liverpool should definitely look at.
"Robertson is a great player who is having a dip at the moment. If there is a player with the level of Kerkez or Alphonso Davies, why not go for it. Milos Kerkez reminds me of John Arne Riise a lot.
"Riise liked to bomb forward and was a very attacking left back. He had a great strike on him. It’s a bonus if you have a fullback who defends very well and is able to score, set goals up and cross a few balls in. It makes the game a lot easier."
Liverpool's 'secret weapon'
Fellow Hungarian and Liverpool midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai admitted the left-back was his closest friend in the Premier League, in an interview with Nemzeti Sport, stating: "I would choose Bournemouth's left-back, Milos Kerkez. He looks like me, only a little crazier than me. But he still has time to grow up."
Liverpool may also rely on sporting director Richard Hughes who previously worked at Bournemouth and was the man responsible for bringing Kerkez to the Vitality Stadium from AZ Alkmaar.
