Carlisle United fans gave us their views on X after the 1-0 defeat to Morecambe on Boxing Day - here is a selection of their comments.

Can't see a way out to be honest. MW will not change his style of play at all. If we don't adopt a different game tactic to the one that's put us rock bottom with such a poor win rate and goal rate then I'm afraid we're simply circling the plughole of the football league (@Bjafn_cufc)

Absolutely awful. A tactically poor, boring, timid performance. Such a big game and the players were hopelessly off the pace against against a group of journeymen and cast offs. (@scholes_peter)

Lack of quality, lack of desire, and a distinct lack of a plan. Too slow, with no progress up the field, giving the opposition time to re-group and get men behind the ball. We carry very little goal threat. Not sure where we go from here, because quite frankly it's a mess. (@BenJoesph0157)

Truly one of the most directionless performances I’ve ever seen. Williamson’s tactics are like someone trying to play a song they’ve only heard once from memory. It’s completely baffling that we’ve come to this after everything that has gone on behind the scenes. (@thervd)

In the first half, we tried to build some momentum and won a few corners. Jones strolled over to take them like he was taking a tortoise for a walk. No energy, no urgency, no commitment, no passion. And most of our other players were even worse. (@KeithBloomfiel1)

Have been keeping quiet for ages. Nothing positive to add, so why not? But today after that dire display I have to say, having supported my club now in 8 decades, this is the worst squad I have ever seen wear the shirt. All the basics are missing. Conference bound for sure. (@NotInSeddon)

Dismal performance but if Hayden had scored that easy chance at 3 minutes it would have been a different game. Our inability to put chances away is rotting the team's (and the fans') morale. Got to be fixed quickly in the window to give us any chance of surviving. (@MikeEwins)

After a hopeful looking 10 minutes we soon reverted to type against the only team worse than us in the entire league, despite promising efforts against far better sides in recent weeks. The trapdoor to the National League is swinging wide open and the bolts have been removed (@Rich_W27)

Don’t look like scoring, no point in impotent possession. Need to be one or two touch passing with movement. Can’t see how MW continues with those chants. Bleak stuff and don’t see how it get turned around. Need something before January but where are the goals coming from? (@andrewhoddie)

This is so reminiscent of this time last year in so many ways and the comments from fans. In fact I would say it's a carbon copy and we all know how that turned out praying it's not the case. (@skythelimit1970)

I find Williamson’s tactics and team selection impossible to understand. It would appear his players are in the same boat. (@JHallHDI)

Worst squad of players in all my time of watching the Blues. (@carlisl9125)

Insipid, lacking ideas, creativity and a Plan B. Summed up for me after a couple of minutes of pointless side-to-side passing comes back to Hayden, who mis-controls and ends up having to almost rugby tackle the forward to stop them attacking (@CowellLes1975)

Utter shambles, I could go on. We are down, unless the January transfer window comes good. (@mike_conve30651)

My first match was 1971. This is the worst group of players I have ever witnessed. Only one solution (@lowtherbrowns)

The guy is as dull as dishwater. There is a nonchalance about him. He's definitely not the right character to be steering a club away from a League 2 relegation scrap. It has just been one of those poor appointments clubs make, and needs rectifying urgently. (@daverigg)

I'm sure most would agree it's was shockingly bad, MW should have changed it around at halftime but this is about as bad as I've seen any team play considering the importance of today's fixture. We were slow, lethargic, slow of thinking, unsupportive of players & unable to create (@Dougmacd9826)

Well there are no words really are there! But let's go with Big crowd..Big expectations...Big flop. I'm thinking we all knew that would be the result, in fact I'd just said to my seat neighbour before they scored and we were penned in..."it's just a matter of time" (@LindaNi121202)

As bad as it’s been for a very long time. We’re staring non league football square in the face. Big decisions should be made and soon. (@Nick_Brown86)

One player stood out today for us and that was Neal. the rest can go for me. Williamson has lost the confidence of the fans and must be removed now as there is no way back for him. He was a hasty appointment with no real pedigree and the owners should put things right. (@peterjo91525330)

Terrible, it'll take a miracle of Jimmy Glass proportions to save us from the National League now, poor management and gutless players. (@westofthecaldew)

Williamson is as boring as the football he has his team playing. . Possession does not win you games , Leicester won the Premiership with roughly 42% average, we can’t even win a game with 60%+ cos majority of it is backwards and sideways. (@philipscott20)

Shocking…. Tactically inept, a game we desperately need to win and he plays a lone forward (@TonyRob777)

The way we are playing is draining the life out of everyone. Nothing to motivate, and the slow, pedestrian play is turning the fans early in the game. A change is needed, now. (@RyCUFC)

If that's manager sets up in a must win game he's not the man for the job. Gutless, toothless and got the result we deserved. We can't go on like this. (@krisfoster)

Win is an absolute must against Accrington - anything less and I think he has to go. This feels similar to the end of the Simpson era - as soon as we go behind, you know that’s it. If we lose against Accrington and he doesn’t get the sack, it signals the Piataks are comfortable enough with the prospect of relegation for what they will deem a longer term vision. Which obviously for anyone else, is an absolute no-go. (@mark_rothery)

I'm really concerned. I can only see this team is going down & we shouldn't be. The Piataks have invested a lot but the cash has been spent so badly by poor advisors, too many sick-notes on big wages. Debt will grow as they'll all leave, and crowds will too. We need a miracle now. (@adydent67)
