Miron Muslic has declared it is normal for there to be transfer speculation about players with the quality of Plymouth Argyle's star attacker Morgan Whittaker.

The 24-year-old hit the national headlines with a fantastic winning goal for the Pilgrims in their shock 1-0 Emirates FA Cup third round win away to Premier League club Brenford. Then, 24 hours later, reports emerged about a bid from Burnley for Whittaker, which Plymouth Live understands was not even close to Argyle's valuation of Whittaker, who is under contract to them until the summer of 2027.

Muslic certainly did not close the door on the possibility of Whittaker leaving Argyle before the end of the January transfer window when he was asked about the latest speculation at a Press conference this afternoon but he seemed relaxed about the situation.

Argyle's recently-appointed head coach said: "It's not about how much I want to keep him for the club it's also what's the best for Morgan. I think he's a fantastic football player.

"He's a player who can have one individual moment and decide the game for us. That's quality. Normally those guys cost a lot of money. I think the Brentford goal, that's what you get with Morgan. He can finish the game for you or kill the opponent. That makes him super interesting for a lot of other clubs."

Muslic continued: "I like players who have ambitions and we will see then what's the best for Morgan and what's the best for us. Right now I consider him fully, fully as an Argyle player.

"Everything I saw so far over the last three, four or five days, very professional. Not one talk between us was about moving or transfer, it was about ambition, achieving goals, what we can achieve right now.

"I have a very good first impression of Morgan. I know it's busy for him because I think in the background something is going on but that's normal if you have this quality and you are that kind of profile. It's just normal, but he's very professional and he can deal with that."

Burnley boss Scott Parker was asked on Wednesday about the reports of his club making a bid for Whittaker but he had little to say on that. "To be fair, it's never something that I will discuss,” he said.

"I think I have been consistent with that and I will stick to that really. We will be looking around and we will see that regarding individual names, (but) it's not something that I want to comment on."

As far as Argyle bringing in new signings this month, Muslic made it very clear he wanted to make sure they were 'the right ones' and fitted the profile of player he was looking for.

Muslic said: "I think it's important to share the information between the head of recruitment, the scouts and all the guys who are spending a lot of time to find the right profile, and also there is clear communication with the manager.

"There are always ideas. There are a million ways to play football. Everyone has his own style and we want to make sure we get the right profile in terms of personality, character, but also the physical demands we are going to have for the next weeks, months and years, and the technical and tactical approach.

"This is a long, long process and a long, long journey. I think our recruitment department prepared already some interesting profiles and then we have to pick the right one for us.

"Especially in January you really have to pick the right ones and not just going out to throw away some millions to get players in. We want the right player for this project."
