Miron Muslic believes the new defensive structure he has introduced at Plymouth Argyle is bringing the best out of Victor Palsson.

The 33-year-old Iceland international has put in strong performances in the last two Championship fixtures away to Blackburn Rovers and Luton Town, after struggling for form and getting little game time earlier in the season.

Maksym Talovierov and Nikola Katic have deservedly earned plaudits for their defensive displays since joining Argyle at the end of the winter transfer window.

Julio Pleguezuelo was also playing well before dropping out of the side for the last couple of matches due to an adductor muscle injury. That opened the way for Palsson to return to the team and he has made the most of the opportunity.

Argyle had to show a lot of resilience as they came from behind to draw 1-1 in a full-blooded bottom-of-the-table clash away to Luton Town on Wednesday night.

Muslic said about Palsson: "He just fits into our new defensive structure. You need players very aggressive, always on the front foot, very physical because the opponents are demanding this kind of profiles because they go direct, they go vertical, they go long.

"I think Victor, like some other players, just feels the trust and he can gain confidence. Our structure gives the players stability. I don't think six weeks ago we will be able to turn this game (against Luton), we will lose this game 100 per cent.

"That was the comment of Nance (first team coach Kevin Nancekivell), of Adam (Randell), of Jordan (Houghton), of Joe (Edwards) but that's just the new stability we have, and I think the centre-backs are playing a big, big role. It's not only Maksym, it's not only Nikola, it's Victor but also Julio so we are on a good way to stabilise this team."

Argyle lost one of their defensive options last month when Zimbabwe international Brendan Galloway was ruled out for the rest of the season by injury.
