Miron Muslic immediately turned his attention to Plymouth Argyle's fight for Championship survival after his side caused a huge Emirates FA Cup upset by beating Premier League leaders Liverpool 1-0 in a historic fourth round tie at Home Park.

Muslic described the victory over Liverpool as 'the biggest moment so far in my coaching career' but then declared 'the biggest moment is yet to come, end of season, when we are staying up'. In just his sixth game as the Pilgrims' boss, he guided his side to a stunning win, which came as a result of a 54th minute penalty from striker Ryan Hardie and a superb defensive display.

"Normally I'm very, very good in my words and eloquent but I'm a little bit speechless to be fair," he said. "Very emotional because I realise the task today, I realise the opponent, I realise it's the FA Cup, it's the biggest, most famous cup in the world.

"We played Liverpool so it was just omnipresent and very, very big in the city, in the club, in our locker room, and we just wanted to represent Argyle in the best possible way.

"That was the game plan, to be structured, to be organised, to be brave, to fill it with intensity and then just to show ourselves, to use this huge stage, it's an opportunity for the players to shine and I think the lads did it outstanding."

Asked where it ranked as a one-off win as a manager, he said: "This is the biggest moment so far in my coaching career, no doubt. It's the FA Cup, it's Liverpool, no doubt.

"The biggest moment is yet to come, end of season, when we are staying up. This is my goal. This is what I have on my mind, inside my soul, this is the big, big goal for Argyle. Then this will be the next biggest moment in my career."

Argyle have gone from trailing 5-0 at half-time in their Championship match against Burnley at Home Park on January 22 to picking up four points from their next two league games - a 2-2 draw away to Sunderland and a 2-1 home defeat of West Bromwich Albion - and then beating eight-times FA Cup winners Liverpool.

Muslic said: "We started this turnover actually in the half-time against Burnley. After being five-zero down my message to the lads was 'It takes a lot of courage to go outside and to finish the game, and if we can manage this we won't change the result but we will make a step forward, and this step forward will help us for the next challenging days and weeks' and we did this.

"We followed it just a couple of days later in Sunderland, a week later West Brom, and now Liverpool. This gives us not only the belief but also a confidence boost that if we can show this togetherness, if we can sacrifice on the pitch, the Green Army is there anyway, they are just waiting for us to start and they will support us until the end.

"We will need this togetherness on the pitch and off the pitch. It's a hell of a task in front of us, no doubt, but I think we are ready to take on this challenge."

On the game against Liverpool itself, Muslic said: "Part of the plan was to keep a very good defensive structure. We knew it's Liverpool and we will have a lot of moments when we have to defend, where we will have our block a little bit deeper, and we have to enjoy defending, and I think we just did it.

"I recall one shot outside of the box of Liverpool that was the most dangerous action. To keep them out, to keep them away from the goal, it's a huge task.

"We just had a very strong defensive structure, also later on in the game when Liverpool pushed for the last 10-12 minutes with a lot of crosses, a lot of long balls, almost every clearance was for us - (Nikola) Katic, Maksym (Talovierov) - and nice saves also on Conor (Hazard). In the end you need a little bit of luck but I think we deserved to win this game."
