Pascal Struijk could be involved in Leeds United's clash with Cardiff City this weekend. The Dutchman has been absent from the past three matches due to a hamstring problem.

Farke was initially worried Struijk would be out of action for several months but scan results reported the defender's injury to not as bad as first feared. Struijk has been a first team regular for the Whites this season, clocking up 26 appearances across all competitions. In his absence, captain Ethan Ampadu has deputised at centre-back. Ampadu has produced a number of assured performances in defence, helping United keep three clean sheets on the bounce alongside fellow Wales international Joe Rodon.

"He has been back in team training since Tuesday," he told the media. "If he is able to handle the load in the next couple of days, he's definitely a topic for the squad."

Farke also confirmed that youngster Sam Chambers (knee) has shrugged off his knock and is back in full training. Austrian international Max Wober (knee) is a major doubt for the Bluebirds meeting.

"We have had to manage Max Wober this week," he said. "He was not able to train on Tuesday."

Striker Patrick Bamford (hamstring) is unlikely to feature this Saturday as United seek to extend their unbeaten Championship run to 12 matches. On the prospect of United adding to their squad before the end of the window, Farke said: "I like to be transparent about the situation. I'm not a big friend of the January window. Options are always quite limited.

"If you're top of the league and are playing a really good season, it's difficult to improve the team. It could even be risky if you bring the wrong person because of the spirit we have. We will stay awake until the last hour of the window.

"We have a really good group. It is good enough to be top of the league after 29 games. "It’s difficult to improve such a squad. I spoke quite open and honest about the positions we have a look. Then we need the right quality, character and is to be affordable. If not then we stick with what we’ve got. So far, not one option where all boxes ticked."
