Who it’s for: Golfers who want the most feel and spin-generating control around the greens.

What you should know: The T1 wedges are classic, muscleback-design shot game clubs that are designed to amplify feel, spin and control around the greens while the T3 wedges have a subtle cavity-back design to create some perimeter weighting.

The deep dive: Over the last few seasons, Mizuno has featured two wedge families, the T and the S, and updated them in alternating years. That’s stopping. Last season’s T24 wedges will be around in 2025, but Mizuno is planning for that to be the last T Series offering. With the release of the Mizuno Pro T1 and T3 wedges, the Japanese brand is cleaning up its wedge lineup and trying to offer an easy-to-understand, versatile family of short game tools for a wider range of players.

While more and more clubs are produced in automated production lines than minimize human work in the manufacturing process, Mizuno is intentionally going the other way with the Mizuno Pro wedges. Like Mizuno Pro irons, after virtual 3D clubs are designed on computers, prototypes are milled and taken to craftsman in Japan who then hand polish and grind the clubs into their final shape. Mizuno designers feel the craftsman experience and eyes are something computers can’t replicate, so when they are finished putting the final touches on the wedges, the clubs are rescanned into the computer system and that version becomes the final master model that all future clubs are based upon. So, the curve in the heel area, the way the metal flows around the toe area in the topline, and the way the sole is made is rooted in both computer designs and master craftsmen’s hands.

Both the Mizuno Pro T1 and T3 wedges are grain flow forged using 1025E mild carbon steel, the same material Mizuno uses in the Mizuno Pro irons. The forging process stretches and elongates the steel under high pressure, which allows the material to do a better job of enhancing the sensations created at impact.

The Mizuno Pro T1 is a classic, teardrop shape wedge with a muscleback look, while the T3 is slightly larger and has been made with a shallow cavity-back design to give it more perimeter weighting and slightly more forgiveness. The T3 also has a slightly wider sole and slightly more offset, to add to its heightened level of forgiveness. In the lob wedges, both the T1 and T3 have extra mass behind the topline to elevate the center of gravity location, increase spin and help golfers flight shots down for enhanced accuracy.

Both the T1 and T3 have been designed with Mizuno’s Quad Cut+ grooves, and the geometry of the grooves is different based on the club’s loft. The pitching wedges and gap wedges (46-52 degrees) have 15 grooves across the hitting area and they have iron-style shaping that is deeper but narrow to mimic the spin and feel you get with an short iron because golfers use those clubs from the fairway with full swings. However, the sand wedges and lob wedges (54-60 degrees), have 16 grooves in the hitting area and they are deeper and wider so they can channel away water and debris more effectively and boost spin.

Mizuno has also kept its Hydro Flow micro grooves which are a series of laser etched grooves that are added to the face under the chrome plating to boost surface roughness between the grooves.

The Mizuno Pro T1 wedge is being offered in six different sole grinds and in lofts ranging from 46 to 60 degrees. The T3 wedge will be available in three grind offerings (S, M, and C) and in lofts from 46 to 60 degrees.

  • S Grind (46-54 degrees): This sole offering is straight and ideal for full swing shots from the fairway and standard chip and pitch shots

  • M Grind (54-58 degrees): This grind has some heel and toe relief along with moderate effective bounce to enhance versatility.

  • P Grind (54-56 degrees): This is a new grind option for 2025. The P Grind has a higher effective bounce to make it better in soft conditions, fluffy sand, and for golfers who tend to make steep swings into the ball.

  • C Grind (58-60 degrees): This wedge has extra heel and toe relief

  • V Grind (56-60 degrees): This grind offers the most aggressive heel and toe relief for the maximum versatility around the green, along with a high effective bounce.

  • X Grind (60 degrees): Offered as a lob wedge only, this low bounce option is ideal for firm conditions, tight lies and trick situations around the green for skilled players.
