Sonny Finch is back at loan club MK Dons having overcome a knock he suffered during a recent return to Middlesbrough.

Finch is spending the season on loan at the League Two club but, after a change in management early into his spell there, he's struggled for game time. With his last outing coming on October 8 in the EFL Trophy, Finch had a short spell back on Teesside, playing some games for the Under-21s to boost his match sharpness.

Among his outings included scoring a hat-trick in a National League Cup victory over Halifax Town. However, explaining Finch's Boro return, Dons boss Scott Lindsay admitted that his forward options made it 'difficult' for the 19-year-old, who caught the eye of Michael Carrick shortly after his arrival at Boro.

But providing an update on Finch after he finally returned to his loan club, Lindsay told the MK Citizen: “He picked up a little bit of an injury while he was up there so they kept hold of him to see him through the rehabilitation period, but he came back today.

"It's good to have him back on the grass with us. Moving forwards, he'll be a part of what we do again, but with that injury, it's the first time he's been with us so we'll have to monitor him going forwards.”

Lindsay previously spoke about the difficulty that Finch will have at Milton Keynes. After his arrival, head coach Mike Williamson departed for Carlisle United and after Lindsay's appointment former Birmingham striker Scott Hogan was signed to bolster options. But with injuries afflicting the Dons squad, Finch could have an opportunity to prove himself in the coming weeks.

Speaking of the loan and the value in the experience, whether good or bad, Carrick previously said: "It’s getting the balance right as far as the experience of going out on loan and dealing with the ups and downs of that. Sometimes it goes your way and sometimes it goes against you, and you’ve got to manage that as a younger player."
