Mohamed Diomande Rangers appeal date set as Ibrox club take a stand on red card fight
Rangers ace Mohamed Diomande will learn his Tannadice red-card fate on Tuesday.
Ibrox boss Philippe Clement was left furious after seeing the midfield ace sent off by referee Nick Welsh seconds from the end of Sunday's 3-1 win over Dundee United. The Belgian vowed to appeal the decision and the SFA have now confirmed the case of "wrongful dismissal' will go before a fast-track disciplinary panel on Tuesday.
Diomande got his marching orders after getting involved in a bust-up with Tangerines defender Kevin Holt. He appeared to swing an arm out but made no contact with the United player. Whistler Walsh stood by the sending off for 'violent conduct' - even after VAR official Don Robertson recommended he take a second look on the pitch-side screen.

But that only added to Clement’s shock, with the Rangers boss admitting after his side's Tayside triumph: “I totally don't understand the red card. I think the VAR also didn't understand the red card, otherwise they don't ask the referee to come to watch the screen.
“So Dio gets pushed, pushed away, so there's violent contact towards him in the push, and he falls back, and he has a small reaction with his hands, not touching anybody. So if you see that back, I think it's clear the maximum is for the two players, the yellow card. I see so many things happening it Scottish football every week.
“If this is a red card, then every game there should be three, four red cards. So the only thing we can do now is to appeal this, because I don't understand that you can go to the screen and then stick to your opinion of the red card, but it happened.”
Asked if he was confident Gers’ case would hold up in front of the SFA disciplinary panel, he said: “I think it's clear for everybody. Everybody that I speak to here says that they don't understand the red card.”
It was Diomande’s equaliser that got Rangers going on Tayside after they’d fallen behind to Sam Dalby’s 11th goal of the season. Robin Propper fired Gers back in front and Cyriel Dessers followed up Thursday’s Old Trafford stunner with another fizzed finish.
The victory saw Gers concede first and comeback to win for the first time this season.
Clement hopes the sending-off does not overshadow his team’s display - but admits it’s an issue that needs straightening out.
He said: “If we only speak about the red card, that would not give credit to what my team did today. I don't like to [complain about decisions], but in this case we need to do it.
“I didn't speak to the referee after the game because I know how these things go. He's in the emotions, I'm in the emotions, so that's not a good moment.
“It's a good thing we have the open communication with the referee department, and we're going to appeal that, and then we're going to see what they think about it, and also to ask what the VAR said. It's clear they bring him to the screen, so they don't agree with the decision. That's clear.”
