Al-Hilal will reportedly launch a push to sign Mohamed Salah - after the Liverpool forward admitted a contract solution is 'far away'.

Salah’s current deal expires in June - the same times Virgil Van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold’s contracts expire at Liverpool. Salah said in December he and Liverpool were ‘far away’ from reaching an agreement to extend his contract.

The three players have been mainstays in Liverpool’s recent successes and have shown no signs of slowing down, all remaining pivotal in the Reds’ title charge this season. Salah in particular has been in scintillating form, providing 18 goals and 13 assists in the league alone - topping the charts for both accolades.

The Egyptian continues to speak about his contract discussions with Liverpool which seem to have reached a stalemate. So, it’s no surprise that the 32-year-old has attracted interest from a host of clubs who hope to prise him away from Anfield.

PSG were previously linked, along with other European giants, but they are set to sign Napoli’s Khvicha Kvaratskhelia - a rumoured Liverpool target. Now, Saudi Pro League champions Al-Hilal are reportedly ready to offer Salah a highly lucrative deal to replace Neymar as the face of their project.

This isn’t the first time a Saudi club has come knocking for Salah - Liverpool rejected a £150m offer for Salah from Al Ittihad in August 2023. Giving an update on the situation last month, the player told Sky Sports: “No, we are far away from that. I don’t want to put something in the media and people start saying stuff, but nothing really moved on.”

Also speaking in December, Slot said: “I think I have a lot of control over what they do if they are on the training pitch or in a meeting with me. But if you’re talking about their private life I don’t have control. I have control over what I expect from them on the pitch and I’m really pleased to see what Trent, Mo and Virgil bring on the pitch.

“Mo and the word extraordinary is something I have heard a lot in the last six months. He truly deserves this. He doesn’t surprise us. We know what a player he is and what he is able to do.

"He works really hard aside from that when the opposition team has the ball. I would also add that when he scores the chance is made by other players on the pitch. But when you put him in those positions he is extraordinary.”

Turki Alalshikh, one of Saudi sport’s most powerful figures, has been credited with rejuvenating boxing through the Riyadh Season banner but is also known to have ties with Al Hilal. Yesterday (January 15), Alalshikh posted a mocked-up image of Salah wearing the Saudi club’s blue strip - sparking rumours of an imminent approach.

Neymar’s contract as Al-Hilal poster boy is due to run out at the same time as Salah’s - the end of the season. The Brazilian’s shock move to Saudi was seen as a flagship transfer alongside Cristiano Ronaldo’s move to Al-Nassr.

However, Neymar has struggled with injuries during his time in the country - frustrating fans as he continues to receive his wage of more than $100m (£82m) per year.
