Mohamed Salah has already opened the door to a future move to Saudi Arabia as speculation continues over his future at Liverpool.

The Egyptian is entering the final few months of his contract at Anfield, with no indication yet whether he might extend his stay. Recent reports had suggested that he had agreed a new three-year deal with the club, but Salah poured cold water on those claims after the Reds’ win over West Ham on Sunday.

"No, we're far away from that (giving some good news on his future)," Salah told Sky Sports. "I don't want to put something in the media and people start saying stuff, but nothing has moved and now we're focused on the team."

Salah remains in talks with Liverpool, and has previously hinted that he wants to stay on Merseyside. With his contract expiring at the end of the season though, he could find himself looking for pastures new.

Saudi Arabia could well be an option, with Salah having been regularly linked with a move to the Middle East over the past 18 months. Al-Ittihad had a $188m (£150m/€181m) bid turned down by Liverpool last year, and there have been no further offers since then.

There has been plenty of speculation though, with more rumors likely to emerge as the January transfer window opens. Saudi Pro League sporting director Michael Emenalo has recently talked up the possibility of Salah making the move to Middle East, having confirmed interest from the league in the winger.

“I think it depends on Mo,” Emenalo told the Obi One Podcast in October when asked what the chances of Salah moving to Saudi Arabia were.

“The stories that our teams went after him was true, it is true, there was an interest, but just like [Victor] Osimhen, it’s ok for me to have an interest in signing Mo, but the club have to have an interest in letting him go, and if those things don’t align, you don’t have a deal.

“Fundamentally, Liverpool didn’t want to sell and what price were we willing to buy at? I didn’t feel the player was ready to come because he felt like he had unfinished business.”

Although Salah has shown signs of not being finished in European football yet, he has previously confirmed he would be interested in making the move to Saudi Arabia.

Speaking to Sport360 in 2016 - while he was still at Roma - Salah said: “I don’t know what the future holds, but I would definitely agree to a professional career in Saudi Arabia.”

Salah will be able to negotiate a pre-contract agreement with a foreign club from tomorrow as 2025 begins. Liverpool looks to still have work to do if it is to convince the winger to stay put at Anfield.
