Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah has long been a wanted man in Saudi Arabia with the Reds having already flatly rejected a bid worth around $185m (£150m/€180m) for his services in 2023.

But with Neymar potentially being brutally axed by Al Hilal, the side he joined from PSG and has barely played for since, the Saudi Pro League outfit is dreaming of Salah being his replacement. The Spanish outlet AS reports that Neymar's contract is due to expire at the end of June this year, but there have been no talks to renew it.

That should perhaps not be a surprise given his injury record has been appalling since he moved to the Middle East. Al Hilal has effectively had to fork out $58m (£47m/€56m) for each of his seven appearances to cover his transfer fee and wages.

Inter Miami and Santos are two options on the table for Neymar when he moves on, with the latter being his former club. The MLS move, of course, would see him reunite with Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez.

Al Hilal already has the likes of Kalidou Koulibaly, Malcom, Renan Lodi, Ruben Neves, Aleksandar Mitrovic, Joao Cancelo and Sergej Milinkovic-Savic. But convincing Salah that he should be the next one to join the roster is unlikely to be straightforward.

Talks are ongoing for Salah to extend his Liverpool contract and that appears to be his number one choice. But even if nothing can be agreed at Anfield and he does become a free agent, there will be plenty of suitors in Europe.

Salah is arguably the best player in the world on current form so moving to the Saudi Pro League, while it would be lucrative, might not appeal at the moment. It feels much likelier that he will remain in Europe next season ideally with Liverpool.

Liverpool.com says: There is no way that someone as good as Salah should be playing in the Saudi league next season. It might become an option one day but he deserves to be playing at the pinnacle of the game still. That means representing a Champions League club.
